Alternative Career Paths: Writer or Photographer

Daily writing prompt
What alternative career paths have you considered or are interested in?

Lately, I’ve been thinking about the kind of careers I might have chosen if life had gone in a different direction. Two that always come to mind are being a writer or a photographer.

Writing has always been something that brings me comfort. There’s just something about putting words down that helps me quiet my mind. When I write, I can step away from the things that worry me and lose myself in another world. At the moment, I’m actually working on a story, and I really love it. It’s become my little escape — a place where I can pour my thoughts, feelings, and imagination without judgment. It eases my anxiety and helps me not dwell too much on everything else that’s going on in my life.

Photography is another path I could easily see myself following. I love how a photo can capture a single moment that might otherwise be forgotten. It’s like freezing time for just a second, holding onto a feeling or memory. I think being a photographer would be such a beautiful way to see the world — noticing the small details that most people overlook.

Both writing and photography let me slow down and really see things differently. They remind me that creativity isn’t just about producing something; it’s about expressing myself, finding calm, and reconnecting with what matters most.

Maybe one day I’ll blend the two — pairing my words with my photos, telling stories through both. For now, I’m just grateful to have writing as a gentle outlet, something that keeps me grounded and gives me peace when life feels a little too heavy.
